Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race
🚴 UCI
Named after Australia’s Tour de France winner, this coastal classic blends postcard scenery with nasty little stingers like Challambra Crescent in Geelong.
Crosswinds off the Great Ocean Road can shred the peloton, and late climbs thin the field before a reduced-bunch showdown. It’s a modern WorldTour one-day race that rewards positioning, resilience, and smart timing more than brute force.
Beyond the pro race, the event weekend includes the popular People’s Ride over sections of the same route, deepening the festival feel. Teams treat the day as a form check after the TDU: sprinters gauge top-end speed, classics leaders assess punch, and everyone practices wind echelons. The winner list skews toward fast finishers who climb well and corner cleaner than the rest.
