Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

🌍 INT
The traditional opener of the Flemish spring flips the switch from “training” to “racing.” Cobbled sectors and sharp climbs (the classic “hellingen”) reward fighters who can surf position into narrow entries and punch over the tops. Weather often plays a role; cold wind and wet stones make already technical sectors unforgiving.
Omloop sets the tone for the classics block—teams practice lead-ins, leaders test legs, and new cobble specialists emerge. A small elite group usually forms late; if cooperation falters, a reduced sprint decides it. Either way, it’s a masterclass in timing, traction, and nerve.
